CAN THESE DRY BONES LIVE ?

Can these dry bones live ?

Ezekiel 37:3–5: “And He said to me, ‘Son of man, can these bones live?’ So I answered, ‘O Lord God, You know.’ Again He said to me, ‘Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, “O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord God to these bones: ‘Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.'”

God showed His prophet Ezekiel a vision of a valley filled with dry bones and asked him, “Can these bones live?” This was God’s pledge to someday soon restore His people and the nation of Israel to life and spiritual regeneration. Of course had it been any other person asking the question, the answer would obviously have been of course not, but Ezekiel remembered who was asking and he gave a wise answer. This man of God recognized that nothing is out of the question with God, the God of the impossible.

This question is still a fascinating one for us today. In fact God asks every one of us, as His servants, to speak to the dead things in us and to people every day.

You can take a seed that has been preserved for a very long time and plant it and see a tree come to life. However, you can't stick a dry bone in water and expect it to come back to life. Even if you fertilized it and watered it for a hundred years, it would never live again. So these "very dry" bones symbolized a situation that looked completely hopeless.

This passage is a reminder that we serve the Creator of life. No matter how “dead” you feel from depression, sickness, stress, or day-to-day life, God can revive you.

Some of us do a pretty good job of covering up our dry bones. Maybe our marriages are dry and barren. Or maybe there has been a loss of vitality in our family or work relationships. Some of us have bank accounts that are like dry bones. Others have health problems. Whatever the cause, the message in this devotion is that God can send new life to your dry bone situation. God can breathe vitality through His Spirit and through His Word into our lives. Pray for that revival today.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for shining your light on my life today. I recognize that there are areas of lifelessness in me. Area that have been dry and dead for a very long time. That I have not lived only existed, I have let apathy take place, because of my desolate situation. As you commanded your servant to speak life to the valley of dry bones, I speak life to every dead thing in me. I pray that You will breath your Spirit in me and that I will become a living soul today, that my life will be revived today. In your name Jesus I pray. Amen!
